Hello! I'm Arevik

A Senior Researcher and postdoctoral fellow at the Scientific and Production Center “Armbiotechnology” of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.

I started my scientific career in 2008 at the Laboratory of Geomicrobiology and Metals Bioleaching.

Since 2011 I am a PhD student in the field of Geomicrobiology at SPC “Armbiotechnology” of NAS Armenia. The title of my thesis is “Isolation and study of new chemolithotrophic bacteria in processes of bioleaching of sulfide minerals”. In October 2015 I got my PhD in Biology.

Now I am a postdoctoral fellow in the same Center. My postdoctoral research is focused on recovery of metals from secondary recourses using bio-based technology.

Research interests: Comprehensive research on ecology, biodiversity and biological peculiarities including adhesion and biofilm formation of chemolithotrophic bacteria, as well as their application for metal biotechnology and bioremediation. Recovery of non-ferrous, rare and precious metals from low-grade ores, refractory concentrates and technogenic wastes using microbial consortia.

Effect of organics on acidophilic bioleaching microorganisms in various processes (sludge, solvent extraction) and strategies to alleviate.

Extraction of high value added products (metals) from anaerobic digester sludge.

Microbial phosphorous extraction and recovery from sludge.

Recycling of secondary raw materials such as waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
